Overbearing
Expectations
Before we begin, I
must stress that this tale is all concerning the USA. As we
know the USA is way behind the UK in many fields including
temporary car insurance! You can get an inkling of our very
superior product at
goldbend.com.
My first and only
experience with temporary auto insurance began with an auto
accident I had about two years ago. No one was hurt, and it
was hardly serious. However, my insurance company somehow
loopholed their way out of paying for my expenses. I was so
angry I actually called up the person I had been in the
wreck with and asked her who her insurance policy was with.
After she told me, I immediately made up my mind to switch.
However, because of the recent accident (and a few other
unfair! unfair! parking tickets), they wanted a waiting
period before they would fully cover me. I had to get a
temporary insurance policy, because I sure as hell wasn't
staying with my company after they backstabbed me.
I had no idea about how to go about choosing a temporary
company. None of my friends knew; they had never had
occasion to get one. So I just started calling up companies
as I found them, usually at about 4 am on Channel 0 right
after the informercial about the new carrot cutter you
simply had to own.
My call to Company 1: "Hello, I'm looking for temporary
insurance."
"Hablo espanol?"
"What? No, I only speak English."

My call to Company 2: "Hello, I'm looking for temporary
insurance."
"Isn't that great."
"... Could you tell me a little bit about your different
policies?"
"Are you serious? Ok, one doesn't cover your car. The other
one doesn't cover your car or the other guy's car. Which one
you want?"
"Let me get back to you."
My call to Company 3: "Hello, I'm looking for temporary
insurance."
*Muffled shuffling*
"Hello?"
*More shuffling*
"Hello?"
"No, wait, wait! I have a script that I have to say and I
lost it. Don't hang up! They'll fire me!"
*click*
My call to Company 4:
Are you kidding? There was no call to Company 4 or to any
other company. I took the bus for 6 months.
